Chilliwack BC player now part of St. FX X-Men

St. FX brings in a commit from the west coast.

It’s a 55-hour, 6,154km drive from Chilliwack, BC to St. Francis Xavier University. But, it’s more likely that Ethan Mastin, a safety from G.W. Graham High School, will be flying to his new school after signing with the X-Men.

So, what drew Mastin, who hails form Chilliwack, from the west coast all the way to the east coast? Simple, new challenges. “What appeals to me at St. FX is the amount of opportunity there is for me out the, like being able to compete with players from the other side of Canada.

The G.W. Graham Grizzly (BC Secondary Schools Football Assocation) added that, “I choose St. FX because of all the amazing things I’ve heard from past coaches and family. I’ve been talking to Head Coach Waterman for a few weeks now and he seems like a fantastic coach that cares a lot of his players, which is a huge for someone like me going across Canada.”

Traversing the country will be no small task for Mastin. He will be saying goodbye to teammates who he has played with since grade eight to grade 12 with the Grizzlies. But, the 6’0, 160lbs athlete has had a decorated career and a wealth of experience that he will be brining to the X-Men. He played with the U16 edition of Team BC in the Football Canada Cup. While he made the U18 team, he didn’t play. This year, he played in the Senior Bowl.

Mastin has also suited up for the Cory Phipott Miami Team All-Star Youth, took part in the Alberta-BC Border Bowl over the last three years and was a Valley all-star. The potential nursing or teaching student has many accolades on his resume as well.

2013 and 2014 JV Provincial championship
2015 and 2016 Provincial defensive back all-star
