CFL draft memorable for 2 local players

The 2010 Canadian Football League draft was a memorable one for a couple of local football players.

Cory Watson, a wide receiver from Dollard, was selected ninth overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Watson, a 26 year-old North Shore football product, was a second-team CIS All-Star last year for the Concordia Stingers.

The 6-foot-2 receiver caught 52 passes for 821 yards and six touchdowns for Gerry McGrath’s Stingers. Watson led the Quebec Conference in receptions and receiving yardage.

In the third round, the Montreal Alouettes selected quarterback Marc-Olivier Brouillette, another North Shore football product from Dollard, with the 23rd overall pick.

The 23-year-old pivot, who stands six-feet tall and weighs 230 pounds, played his CEGEP football at Vanier College in St. Laurent before moving on to the Université de Montréal Carabins.

With their first-round pick, the Als reached out for offensive lineman Kristian Matte, a St. Hubert native who starred last season at Concordia. Matte went seventh overall.
