CFCs ‘Top 25’ CIS poll – Week 3 – “BYE BYE AUS”

1. (NC) Laval Rouge et or(3-0) +109
Laval dominated the eastern huskies in Halifax. No sign of them slowing down any time soon. Efficient offensive approach led by running back Sebastien Levesque seems to be improving weekly.

2. (NC) Ottawa Gee Gees – (4-0) +60
The offense came through in the fourth quarter against Mac to retain their undefeated mark in the OUA. Brad Sinopoli continues to spread the ball around to receivers Adjety, Hughes, Millington and Bolduc. The absence of a run game could be tough down the road.

3. (7) Montreal Carabins (3-0) +42
Rotrand Sene is the key to the Carabins offense and had a huge game against the ST FX X-men. Home against McGill this friday. Need to develop a pass game to complement their explosive run attack.

4. (5) Calgary Dinos (2-1) -9
Lost to Saskatchewan and then beat Regina and Alberta. Played great defense in the second half against alberta, capped off by Tye Noble interception return for a touchdown.

5. (6) Western Mustangs (3-1) +90
Have dominated in all 3 wins. Their run game has been bolstered by QB Donnie Marshall who rushed for 158 yards on 15 carries against Windsor. Craig Butler continues to have an all-canadian and presidents trophy type season.

6. (10) Regina Rams(2-1) +42
Beat provincial rival saskatchewan 37 to 26 at home. The offense, led by QB Marc Mueller (353 passing yards and 2 TDs) has been impressive in their two victories. Matt Yausie continues to do it all on defense, with an impressive 7.5 tackles, two pass breakups, and a sack versus Saskatchewan.

7. (3) Alberta Golden Bears (2-1) +24
Lost a close one to provincial rivals. A visit from Saskatchewan should be a great indicator where the bears are as a squad.

8. (21) Guelph Gryphons (3-0) +32
Beat Queens at home 21 to 15 making them a contender in the OUA. Its Western this week. A victory in that game will continue the talk about the gryphons. Fifth year running back Nick Fitzgibbons is the key to the offense. The defense is mobile and veteran up front.

9. (14) Concordia Stingers (2-1) -13
Rob MacKay has missed the last 2 games and the stingers hope to have him back when they play bishops this weekend. The young athletic defense has to continue its improvement to give the stingers a chance this weekend.

10. (18) Bishops Gaiters (2-1) +19
The Gaiters outclassed the visitors from wolfville and hope to make amends for a week one loss to the stingers. In that game the gaiters had too many mistakes. Fix them and they should have a chance in montreal.

11. (8) UBC Thunderbirds (1-2) -12
UBC played like a young team against the bisons on saturday. Without star linebacker nathan kanya the defense gave up too many yards on the ground. They are going to have to fix that in order to beat Regina this friday.

12. (4) Saskatchewan Huskies (1-2) -9
Disappointing and now stunning. No one would have predicted a one and two start by the huskies. Especially if you said they were going to win their first game against the dinos in calgary. Laurence Nixon is banged up as well as others. It does not get any easier this week when they travel to Alberta.

13. (19) Manitoba Bisons (1-2) -36
The Bisons offense came out of hybernation to defeat UBC this weekend. Calgary will be another story this weekend.

14. (12) McMaster Mauraders (2-2) -32
McMaster is on a two game losing streak. A home date versus windsor may be the remedy.

15. (9) Queens Gaels(1-2) +22
The Gaels had the first year QB blues when Chapdelaine and McPhee could not get the offense on track. The defense could not contain gryphon RB nick fitzgibbons. They now face the 4-0 gee gees at home.

16. (13) Wilfrid Laurier Hawks- (1-2) -18
They had the bye this week. And now they play york.

17. (16) Sherbrooke Vert et or (1-2) 0
Sherbrooke travels to Laval this sunday.

18. (20) McGill Redmen (0-3) -53
Lost second heartbreaker in a row, not being able to score first and goal late in the game against concordia. Next two opponents are montreal and laval. Moved up in our ranking because of the poor AUS showing.

19. (11) Acadia Axemen (1-1) -5
Acadia, like the rest of the AUS, was outclassed by their Q opponent this week. They host St FX saturday.

20. (15) Saint Mary’s Huskies (0-2) -48
Saint Mary’s are winless and a minus 48 after two games. They hope a trip to rockystone field in moncton to play mount allison will be the remedy they are looking for.

21. (17) Mount Allison Mounties (1-1) -21
Offense moved the ball versus Sherbrooke but could not score. The defense gave up too many big plays.

22. (NC) Windsor Lancers (1-3) -48
Played western tough at home. Freshmen QB Austin Kennedy had his second CIS start and looks like a kid with a bright future.

23. (23) Saint Francis Xavier (0-2) -30
Had 112 yards offense against Montreal.

24. (24) Toronto Varsity Blues (1-3) -42
Beat York in a close game. Rookie running back Aaron Milton had a break out game.

25. (NC) York Lions (0-3) -69
Lost close one to U of T 24 to 19. Had trouble against the run and have run out of winning opportunities.
