#CFCHSFB Preview (ONT-PEEL): Panthers look for another gear down the stretch

The Panthers look to maintain control of their playoff position as they welcome to Mavericks in Week 5 of ROPSSAA play.

The d’Youville Panthers are coming off the long week in which they had the Thanksgiving holiday and their Week 4 bye to rest and prepare for the remainder of the regular season.

“The time off gave guys an opportunity to heal their wounds,” says Head Coach of the Panthers John Paul Falacho. “It also gave guys an opportunity to play different positions which have been key for us. And overall, this was the time for us to sharpen our skills,” noted the Panthers’ coach as they prepare for Mayfield.

With two games remaining on the schedule, the Panthers are currently 2-1 and in the hunt for one of the playoff spots in the ROPSSAA North.

As it stands right now, d’Youville is in the thick of things in that muddled ROPSSAA North, and will have to maintain their focus in order to secure a playoffs birth. The Panthers went into their bye week on a high note, winning two games in a row including their most recent victory they secured against St. Thomas Aquinas in a tightly contested game.

The Panthers will be taking on the 1-3 Mayfield Mavericks in Week 5. However, the Panthers’ coach Falacho realizes they must not take the Mavericks lightly in a situation like this because anything can happen in football.

“Mayfield has good coaching and athletes, so these guys are going to play hard. In response, we have to try and play the best football we can. Hopefully, we can expose things that we find as weaknesses. We’re going to play to what their strengths are and try to stop them from executing to their strengths. We hope this can force them to try and beat us with something they don’t do as well. At the same time, I’m sure they will try to do the same to us, so we really look forward to the match up.”
