#CFCHSFB PREVIEW (ONT – PEEL): Mavericks set to take on Cardinals

As Week 2 is set to start in Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) Tier 1, two 1-0 teams are set to clash as the Mayfield Mavericks will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas to take on the Cardinals.

After spending the 2014 campaign in Tier 2, the Mavericks are getting themselves readjusted to the Tier 1 level of competition. Last week, Mayfield looked just fine defeating Cardinal Ambrozic in a strong road performance. Now Mayfield will look to put together another strong outing against the Cardinals before playing their first home game in Week 3.

The Cardinals wanted to start 2015 on a different tune, and they got the result they were looking for after defeating the David Suzuki Grizzles in Week 1. Head Coach of the Cardinals, Matt Fitzpatrick, notes that it is always good to get a win.

“Momentum is always important in the first week. So hopefully we can continue to gain momentum for the next game and build on that,” added Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick is hoping that his team can obtain enough success early on in the season so it will help the team peak when the playoffs arrive. This would prove to be a major help for the Cardinals as the poor start to last season proved detrimental to the Cardinals in 2014.

With Week 2 being a home game for Aquinas, the student body and staff will get to see what the 2015 Cardinals will bring to the table.

Anticipating a great home crowd, #CFC100 Cardinals’ running back Jevante Stanley (#CFC 100) and the Cardinals are fired up for this game.

“We’re expecting to have a lot of fans at the game, with support from the staff as well,” said the #CFC100. Ā “We have been preparing hard and installing plays and I think we really came together as a team with the game we had last week. So it should be a good matchup between Mayfield and us.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
