#CFC50 South Delta’s Cooper is above the grade

Playing football for 12 years has made Cooper Jones a competitive player for his team.

This defensive back/wide receiver and long snapper is a considerable component for the South Delta Rams and the CFC50 No. 21 nationally ranked South Delta Sun Devils teams. Putting up 43 tackles and 1 interception for a 44 yard touchdown, with a frame of 5’10 at 180lbs, he is a force not to be taken lightly by any opponent.

“What I like about playing DB is that you’re 1 on 1 with the other guy, so it’s best man wins.” Cooper says.

With a graduating year of 2017 we can only suspect that these stats are just the beginning for this young man, and we could see some great things from him before post secondary schooling.

“My goal is to play ball at the university level, whether it’s in Canada or the States. Right now I am open to any school. I have been in contact with UBC, SFU and Saint Mary’s. I have not committed to a University team yet, I am just waiting for the team and coaching staff that fits right for me. I don’t really have a top 3 right now, I mean obviously UBC because it’s close to home.”

Cooper models his game after Josh Norman of the Washington Redskins. “He talks trash but he backs it up with his play on the field, he’s a physical and a smart player” states Jones.

The upcoming off-season is going to be all business for Cooper. He plans on working on his strength and conditioning.

“This off-season I plan on working out 2 times a day, running hills and pulling sled. Anything that can make me a better player.”

He credits his father and brother with where he is today. “The most influential people in my life for football is my brother and my dad. My brother won the Vanier Cup last season with UBC, and is hoping to play in the CFL this coming up year. My dad played football at McMaster and almost made it with the Toronto Argonauts.”

“Football means everything to me, personally I believe it to be the best sport. This game is where you develop your friends for life, and learn new skills. If it wasn’t for this game, I wouldn’t be the person I am today”
