#CFC50 Games of the Week (West/Atlantic) PREVIEW [5]: Big battles in Edmonton and the ‘Peg

We will be previewing the #CFC50 Games of the Week for the West and Atlantic regions. While this will be generally geared towards the #CFC50 ranked teams, we want to hear from you if there are great rivalry games or exciting matchups, regardless of tier or division, that we aren’t aware of. Send us a ‘heads up’ by WEDNESDAY each week and we’ll see what we can do: [email protected].

*Note: Some information was not available at press time. It will be added as it becomes available.

….and now let’s get to it with this week’s #CFC50 Games of the Week PREVIEW

No. 1 St. Francis Browns (AB)  (3-0, 1-0)
BYE
The St. Francis Browns are off this week, but they come back to face the Notre Dame Pride on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6:30pm at McMahon Stadium. We are excited for this game as it could be one of the last times a team could realistically pull the Browns off their tower before playoffs. What an upset it would be, put it in your calendar folks. You won’t want to miss this one!

No. 3 Bev Facey Falcons (AB) (4-0, 2-0) v. Salisbury Sabres (AB) (0-4)
Friday, Oct. 7th, 5:00pm at Emerald Hills Regional Park Artificial Turf
It could be a rough night for the Salisbury Sabres as they face the undefeated Bev Facey Falcons at home on Friday the 7th. Facey, coming off a convincing win against the (3-2) Spruce Grove Panthers, will continue to give the rock to #CFC100 RB Chuba Hubbard who went for 108 yards rushing on 5 carries and two touchdowns last week. The Sabres will need to control the line of scrimmage to contain Hubbard if they want to keep this one close. They will have their work cut out for them as#CFC100 OL James Duffie Jr. will be anchoring the offensive line. With the Sabres having to bring up 18 JV’s to their team this year, the growing pains are incredible, it’s going to be tough battle to the end of the season for Salisbury.

No. 4 Leboldus Golden Suns (SK) (3-0, 1-0) v. O’Neill Titans (SK) (1-3)
Thursday, Oct. 6th, 7:30pm at Leibel Field
Leboldus will face the O’Neill Titans on Thursday, Oct. 6th at 7:30pm. Leboldus is No. 1 ranked in the Regina Schwann division and will look to maintain that spot for another week. The Titans on the other hand, have got an uphill battle with Campbell, Riffel, and Leboldus all in front of them. It won’t make it any easier with the Suns #CFC100‘s LB Nick Cross and RB Semba Mbasela who both scored a touchdown last week against the Balfour Bears and continue to contribute on defense.

No. 8 Mount Douglas Rams (BC) (1-0, 3-0) v. Belmont Bulldogs (BC) (0-2)
Friday, Oct. 7th at 3:30pm at Mount Douglas
It’s rivalry week in BC as Mount Douglas hosts the Belmont Bears on Friday the 7th. The Rams are coming off a bye and should looking to get back to winning. The Bulldogs are going to need all the fight they have in them after being beaten by Vancouver College last weekend 44-6. Let’s hope Belmont’s #CFC100 OL Dontae Bull has something to say about that.

No. 10 St. Paul’s Crusaders (MB) (4-0) v. Kelvin Clippers (MB) (0-4)
Friday, Oct. 7th, 4:30pm at Kelvin
The Crusaders will travel to the 0-4 Kelvin Clippers home turf on Friday. The Clippers will have to shut down QB Riley Naujoks, who is having a great year so far, and #CFC100 DB Shae Weekes. Tayvian Daniels and Asad Shariff for the Clippers are going to have to go into overdrive to get this one done.

No. 12 Terry Fox Ravens (BC) (2-0, 0-2) v. Mount Boucherie Bears (BC) (1-1)
Friday, Oct. 7th, 7:00pm at Percy Perry Stadium
After the 57-0 shutout last weekend against the WJ Mouat Hawks, the Ravens will hope to continue their winning streak when they matchup against the Mt. Boucherie Bears this weekend. Terry Fox #CFC100 RB Jeremie Kankolongo will no doubt continue his rushing ways and carry on with racking up the impressive stats this season. We hope for this game to be more competitive then the last one.

No. 15 Harry Ainlay Titans (AB) (5-0, 1-0) v. Austin O’Brien Crusaders (AB) (3-1)
Friday, Oct. 7th, 7:30pm at Clarke Stadium
This is the game to watch this weekend. The Titans rushed for 422 yards and 4 touchdowns last weekend against Ross Sheppard to come away with a 37-7 win. We think they will face some opposition this week and those kinds of numbers won’t happen for this game. Harry Ainlay #CFC100 LB Tadi Siwira might have something to do with that. AOB is also coming off a 22-8 win against Paul Kane. With home field advantage, the Crusaders could pull off an upset just in time for Thanksgiving.

No. 16 Vancouver College Fighting Irish (BC) (1-1, 2-1) v. Carson Graham Eagles (BC) (0-2, 0-2)
Saturday, Oct. 8th, 1:30pm at Vancouver College
Vancouver College came away with a no contest win last weekend, 44-6 versus the Belmont Bulldogs. We don’t think this weekend will be much different. With VC’s #CFC100‘s RB Michael Le and QB Jacob Samuels who are both having terrific seasons, it could be a long afternoon for Carson Graham. The Eagles, although winless, have competed each game they have played save one. They may give the Irish a bit more than expected.

No. 19 Vincent Massey Trojans (MB) (3-1, 0-1) v. Grant Park Pirates (MB) (4-0)
Friday, Oct. 7th, 4:30pm at Gary Hobson Field
The Trojans meet the Pirates this weekend at 4:30pm Friday. We think this will be the game to watch in Manitoba as both teams seem to be pretty equally matched. Massey beat out the Oak Park Raiders last weekend 45-13 with no real trouble. Trojan’s #CFC100 DE Jalen Burley will be looking to live up to his “Warrior of the Game” award from last week. But the Pirates QB Jared Boone, will be looking to throw the rock all over the field and snatch the ‘W’ to remain undefeated and tied for 1st in the Potter division.

No. 21 Holy Cross Crusaders (SK) (4-0) v. St. Joseph Guardians (SK) (2-1)
Thursday, Oct. 6th at 7:30pm at SMF Field
Tied for top spot in the province and undefeated in the Saskatoon 4A division, the Holy Cross Crusaders meet the St. Joseph Guardians on Thursday at 7:30pm at SMF Field. Coming off a 10-3 win over the Bishop Mahoney Saints from last weekend, the Crusaders won’t be able to sit easy for this one. The Guardians are also coming off a 17-12 win against the Bethlehem Stars and have a solid defense and a bunch of play makers on offense.

No. 22 Henry Wise Wood Warriors (AB) (2-0, 0-1) v. Churchill/Bowness (AB) (0-2)
Friday. Oct. 7th
Players in the game: HWW #CFC100 DE Tyrese Best

No. 31 Notre Dame Pride (AB) 2-0, 0-1 v. William Aberhart Orange (AB) 0-2
Thursday, Oct. 6th, 7:00 pm at Shouldice Athletic Park-Hellard
This game will be extremely difficult for the Orange. The thing to watch is how is ND going to manage all 4 quarters. They shutout Bishop Carroll last weekend 24-0. We are curious to see what their big, young running back Ike Okafor does in this game who went over 100 yards and 10 carries last week. We are sure the Pride’s #CFC100 OL Tyler Packer had something to do with that. Also in this game is ND’s #CFC100 DB Deane Leonard.

No. 33 Centennial Chargers (SK) 4-0
BYE
Centennial is on a bye this weekend, but will be looking to get back at it on the 13th when they matchup against Marion Graham at 5:15pm.

No. 40 Tantramar Regional Titans (NB) 4-0 v. Saint John Greyhounds (NB)
Saturday, Oct. 8th, 1:00pm at Tantramar
We are not sure what to expect this weekend from the Tantramar Titans as they creamed their last opponent 93-0. Let’s hope this one doesn’t get away like that one did.

No. 41 CP Allen Cheetahs (NS) 3-0 v. Halifax West (NS) 1-1
Sunday, Oct. 9th at 4:00pm
The Cheetahs shut out Cole Harbour 48-0 last weekend and are looking to remain undefeated when they square off against Halifax West on Sunday. Looking at last week’s stats where CP Allen had 5 touchdowns from 5 different players and Kyle Bevan led their defense in tackles with 6, let’s hope Halifax West does their homework or it could be a long night on the East Coast.

No. 42 L.C.I. Rams (AB) 1-0, 1-2
BYE
L.C.I will play Bishop O’Byrne when they come off their bye following the Thanksgiving weekend.

No. 43 South Delta Sun Devils (BC) (1-0, 2-0) v. Notre Dame Jugglers (BC) (1-0, 2-1)
Saturday, Oct. 8th Saturday, 1:30pm at South Delta
In a game that went into overtime and ended with the Sun Devils beating Carson Graham 34-28 last week, they probably don’t want to have another nail bitter again this week against the Notre Dame Jugglers. This should be a good game between these two. The Jugglers are also coming off an upset win 44-28 versus the New West Hyacks. The Sun Devils will be looking to #CFC100 LB Grant McDonald to lead their defense. Hopefully South Delta has fixed their kicking woes after they missed three XPT’s last week. The Jugglers will have to continue to count on QB Steven Moretto to be the focal point of the offense and have the same success that he did against the Hyacks. This game will come down to McDonald versus Moretto.

No. 49 Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers (BC) (2-0, 2-0) v. Mission Roadrunners (BC) (1-1, 2-1)
Friday, Oct. 7th, 3:00pm at Mission Secondary
This team is surprising us with each passing week. They came away with a huge win on the road last weekend against the St. Thomas More Knights 26-18. We’ll see if Panthers RB/LB Derek Best has another phenomenal game like he did against the Knights of 22 carries for 162 yards and 1 touchdown, as well as 10 tackles on defense. The Roadrunners on the other hand, also won last weekend 29-18 against Kelowna Secondary in their first AAA conference game. Watch for Andrew Kang, a double A conference all star last year, who had nine tackles including two sacks. QB Hamen Gill, REC James Limoges and  RB Tanner Alward are also players to keep your eye on.

Provincially ranked: No. 4 Valleyview Cougars (AB)  v. No. 1 Sexsmith Sabres (AB) (Tier 4)
Thursday, October 6, 4:30 p.m., Sexsmith High School (Sexsmith)
Death, taxes, and Sexsmith coming out of the Mighty Peace into Provincials at the Tier IV level. All part of life’s guarantees J. Or so we thought. Very few programs have had the level of consistency that the Sexsmith Sabres have had dating back to the early 1990’s as they have always been in the hunt for the Tier IV crown. This year is no exception with QB Rylee Peters and RB Riley Stark leading the way to an undefeated season so far. However, out of bushes comes the strongest contender in years for the Tier IV spot out of the MPFL traditionally claimed by the Sabres. The Valleyview Cougars have quietly put together their own undefeated season with QB Clayton Hanson mixing the attack between star receivers Tristan Werklund and Dylan Tollefsen leaving them at a best ever record of 6-0. Is this where Cinderella meets midnight? Or are the Cougars for real?
