CFC50 Game Preview (MB): St. Paul’s and Dakota set to battle

CFC50 Dakota Lancers vs. CFC50 St. Paulā€™s Crusaders

Friday, Sept. 29th @ 7:00pm

This week in the Winnipeg High School Football League our premier game will be the Dakota Lancers against St. Paulā€™s Crusaders on Friday, at 7:00 pm. Both teams are 3-0 heading into this one.

The Lancers will meet up with St. Paulā€™s after a big 14-2 victory over Vincent Massey, while St. Paulā€™s earned a victory in the Laping Challenge 38-0 over Oak Park.

I talked to Dakotaā€™s Ray Jarvis about what the feeling is like in the clubhouse at 3-0 right now. ā€œIt is a good feeling to know we are on the right track,ā€ said Jarvis. ā€œMassey is a very good team and having the opportunity toĀ compete with them through the course of a game is a confident booster for the team. We also know we are not satisfied and need to continue to work hard and get better each week to remain competitive in the WHSFL.ā€

Last weekā€™s win against Massey was a team effort. ā€œOur defense made significant contributions holding Massey in key situations with some timely turn overs and tackles in the backfield,ā€ mentioned Jarvis. Dakotaā€™s defense bought their offense just enough time to regain some field position and score a couple of touchdowns late in the game.

The message heading into this game doesnā€™t change for the Lancers. Jarvis explained, ā€œEvery team in the division is well coachedĀ and hasĀ great players. We need to play within ourselves, limit our mistakes andĀ compete each and every down.ā€

This will be the Dakota Lancers final road game before they play their first game at home. ā€œNot looking ahead of ourselvesĀ but the opportunity to play at home will be significant,ā€ said Jarvis. ā€œFor all those whoĀ contributed and supported this project the payoff will be when the Lancers step onto the field.Ā We know thatĀ this would have not been possible withoutĀ the dedicatedĀ effortsĀ of many for which we are thankful.ā€

The Lancers will finally be able to celebrate their teams in their own backyard with the community on October 5th when they host the Sisler Spartans.

We at CFC think that the Dakota Lancers will give the Crusaders a run for their money but in the end St. Paul’s will get the win.
