#CFC50 game preview (MB): No 11 St.Paul’s Crusaders host the Sisler Spartans

This Friday night, the #CFC50 No. 11 St. Paul’s Crusaders (2-0)  host the Sisler Spartans (1-1) under the lights at St. Paul’s high school.

In last week’s WHSFL action the Spartans lost a close game to the Grant Park Pirates 16-12, while the Crusaders defeated the Murdoch MacKay Clansmen 40-6.

During the loss to Grant Park, Sisler turned the ball over at crucial times. “We had a few too many turnovers at times when we really need to not turn the ball over,” replied coach Esselmont. “That being said our defense played very well and outside of a few bad bounces it was a great football game.” The Spartans offense has continued to show strengths running the ball, and their defense continues to improve under the mentoring of defensive coordinator Mitch Harrison.

The player of the game on offense was junior fullback Brayden Dejarlais. Desjarlais rushed for 143 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown. Defensively senior cornerback Liam Soliven stood out as he had 2 interceptions in key situations. Soliven earned the WHSFL’s defensive player of the week for the John Potter division for his 6 1/2 tackles and two interceptions.

Sisler heads into this game taking on the Crusaders who are now ranked 11th in the country by CFC. “Every week we prep our kids for a battle, and this week won’t be any different,” mentioned Esselmont. With every game as important as the next in a 7 game season, it’s important for the Sisler coaches to see their kids progressing and building on their skills and abilities. Esselmont explained, “I am very excited for this week as we have added a few wrinkles to help push our kids a little further in their development.”

St. Paul’s, Andrew Metcalfe, earned the Special Teams Player of the Week in the WHSFL’s John Potter Division. Metcalfe had 8 kickoffs for 374 yards (46.75 avg), 2 punts for 33.5 yard average and a 24 yard field goal. Riley Naujoks remains in the league lead for passing with 426 yards and 3 touchdowns. Bryce Stubbings has the receiving lead with 212 yards on 8 catches with a touchdown.

The Sisler Spartans will have their work cut out for them as they prepare to meet the Crusaders who have scored 61 points and allowed just 26.

We at CFC think that St. Paul’s will earn another victory on their quest for perfection. Game is at 7:30 at St.Paul’s.
