#CFC50 2016 high school RANKINGS (12): Hoopla and heartbreak

For the seventh year in a row, Canadafootballchat.com (CFC) is pleased to bring you the national high school football rankings known as the #CFC50. The #CFC50 rankings considers all conference and non-conference games (in Canada and the United States) while scrimmages are not evaluated (there is no such thing as an exhibition game – those are non-conference games).

How is the #CFC50 evaluated?

Leagues included in rankings: British Columbia AAA Varsity, Alberta Tier One, Saskatchewan 12-man 4A, Manitoba AAA Varsity, Ontario OFSAA Bowl AAA qualified teams, Quebec Juvenile Division 1, New Brunswick 12-man, Nova Scotia Tier 1.

The #CFC50 is a RELATIVE RANKING that considers top tier leagues from all eight high school playing provinces (minimum one team represented from each province) and the strength of the league that they play in. Additional criteria used to determine the relative ranking are the ability to accomplish winning a championship, the impact players and performers on that team (ie. #CFC100s, CDN All-Stars etc.), and a team’s coaching and recent tradition.

The CFC Scouting Bureau consists of CFC Reporters, CFC Scouts, and selected local reporters and scouts who submit local ranking results on a weekly basis. The #CFC50 is released every Monday (other than on Holidays) at 12 noon.

No. 1 W.F. Herman Green Griffins – The big, bad, scary, green monster delivered their nightmare to #CFC50 Holy Names with 25-17 win for the Windsor-Essex AAA final. They aren’t quite at the OFSAA Bowl yet as they have to get by St. Pat’s before they face No. 8, the HH Warriors for that Western Bowl title.

No. 2 Bev Facey Falcons – Facey just keeps racking up the wins with their victory over the Notre Dame Cougars from Red Deer. And now we can all settle in for the battle of Alberta, Tier 1 Championship, between No. 9, the St. Francis Browns.

No. 3 A. N. Myer Marauders – Myer has been patiently waiting to see who is going to face them to get to the Central Bowl. Looks like No. 19, Denis Morris, has wrung the bell. Could be a few rounds before this one is said and done.

No. 4 Séminaire Saint-François Blizzard – Quebec 2016 RSEQ juv. Division 1 Champions

No. 5 Leboldus Golden Suns – Saskatchewan 2016 4A Provincial Champions

No. 6 – St. Paul’s Crusaders – Manitoba 2016 AAA Provincial Champions

No. 7 Terry Fox Ravens – The Ravens proved to be worthy of their prowess in their take down of powerhouse, Mt. Douglas, 34-25 in the BC quarter-finals. Next up for them, No. 23, South Delta in the semi’s.

No. 8 Huron Heights Warriors – With their blowout wins all season, the Warriors have won the 2016 YRAA Div 1 Championship title with their win over No. 38, the St. Maximillan Kolbe Mustangs. They won’t get it so easy as they wait to see who they play in the Western Bowl…..the No. 1 green monster or St. Pat’s ???

No. 9 St. Francis Browns – As preluded above, the 2016 Calgary Division 1 Champions have a dinner date with the beast in the North, No. 2, the Bev Facey Falcons. We hear there is a little known running back (or two) on that team that they will need to shut down before they can repeat last year’s glory.

No. 10 Jacob Hespeler Hawks – JHHS has been silently climbing up the ranks until we now see them in the top 10 for the first time. They are set to face No. 35, the Guelph Gaels, for a chance to become the CWOSSA champs and go off to the Central Bowl. It’s those strong, silent types you need to be weary of, but we think we will hear from them again.
