CFC#40 Greyhounds, Purple Knights vie for Championship

The final week of the 2014 New-Brunswick High School Football League (NBHSFL) is upon us, as the Moncton High Purple Knights and the undefeated CFC#40 Saint John Greyhounds are set to square off Saturday afternoon at Rocky Stone Field.

Both squads dominated their respective conferences all season, as the Purple Knights sole defeat came at the hands of the Greyhounds in a highly competitive 34-27 Week 2 contest.

Knights Assistant Coach Dylan Rogers believes that Saturdayā€™s bout will be as tightly contested as the first.

ā€œSaint John is a very good football team that got the best of us early in the season,ā€ explains Rogers. ā€œWe are also a very good football team and like them, we have improved drastically since our last meeting.”

“Saturdayā€™s game promises to be competitiveā€.

Neither team was challenged in their semi-final match, as the Knights pounded the Fredericton High Black Kats 35-16, and the Greyhounds handled the Riverview Royals 35-3.

Aside from the Greyhounds single point victory over the Black Kats in Week 4, both the Greyhounds and Purple Knights have easily managed their opponents on a weekly basis.

The Greyhounds offense was far and away the most impressive offensive unit in the province this season; however, it should be noted that their impressive point total is partly the result of having beaten up on a weak South Western Conference. Nevertheless, the Greyhounds possess a dynamic offense that can beat teams in a variety of ways. The Purple Knights defense will need to be firing on all cylinders in order to contain the Greyhounds effective passing game, and smash mouth running attack.

The Purple Knights has an impressive offensive unit as well, lead by all star slotback Josh Hicks. There has not been a team in the province able to contain Hicks as he has scored multiple touchdowns in every game this season. Whether it be through the air, or on the ground, the Purple Knights finds a way to get Hicks the ball.

On the other side, the Purple Knights defense is lead by grade 11 linebacker, Bailey Feltmate, who has devastated opponents all season.

Fans of New-Brunswick High School football are in for a treat this Saturday afternoon This finals matchup promises excitement and an explosion of high-powered offenses. With their seasons on the line, both teams are sure to bring their best effort.
