#CFC100 recruit wants to “play the hometown hero role” at Laurier (VIDEO)

Kitchener wide receiver becomes third #CFC100 to  join OUA team’s 2016 class.

#CFC100 Gordon Lam has realized a childhood dream.

This past Monday, the 5’11, 180 pound wide receiver from Kitchener, Ontario committed to local CIS team, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.  Lam will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

“The reason I commitment to Wilfrid Laurier was because it felt like home I’ve been playing on that field since I was in the seventh or eighth grade playing bantam football,” expressed Lam of his commitment.  “I wanted to play the hometown hero role.”

“I couldn’t leave the city with only living with my father; I could continue to see him as much as possible staying local.  I couldn’t leave this city and think about it as enemy tuff with rivalries with different teams. I wanted to be the guy who protects his home turf and by growing up in this city.  This is my home turf.”

The Ontario has suited up for both the Cambridge Lions of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and St. Mary’s Eagles of the Waterloo County Secondary School Athletic Association (WCSSAA).

During the 2015 season with Lions, Lam scored four touchdowns (three receiving, one rushing), amassed  487 yards on 39 receptions and 72 rushing yards on nine carries.

This past summer, the offensive standout helped Team Ontario win a silver medal at the 2015 Football Canada Cup in Sir-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Lam also received Game MVP honours during the tournament.

Moreover, Lam has been selected as an OVFL All-Star twice during his career.

In September, the wide receiver was included for the second consecutive time on the #CFC100 CLASS2016 RANKINGS.

With his commitment, the Golden Hawks now have three #CFC100 ranked recruits that have committed to their 2016 class.  The others are quarterback Tristan Arndt and wide receiver Joshua Perez.
