CFC100 joins the Bisons’ herd

Manitoba picks up highly-touted defensive back.

CFC100 Shae Weekes, a defensive back from St. Paul’s High School, will be staying home after signing with the University of Manitoba Bisons.

St. Adolphe, Weekes’s hometown, is only a short drive away from the University of Manitoba. “I chose to commit to Manitoba for a number of reasons. First off, it’s close to home, which allows my parents to watch all of my home games,” he said. “Secondly, I believe that it’s the right fit for me. I love what is going on here and I want to be apart of the push for another title over the next 4-6 years.”

During his career, the 5’11, 175lbs athlete has both suited up as a defensive back and a punt returner. He spent seven years with the St. Vital Mustangs (house league) and four with the St. Paul’s Crusaders (Winnipeg High School Football League). He also suited up for Team Manitoba U18 for two seasons.

When he reaches the Manitoba locker room, Weekes will already be familiar with the team’s coaching staff. “I have a really good relationship with them. Over my years of football, I have interacted with almost every member of the staff and I have a tremendous amount of respect for each of them,” he said.

In his journey, the potential Asper School of Business student has accumulated his far share of accolades:

2010: PeeWee Champion
2012: Bantam Champion
2013: All-Conference Returner
2013 and 2014: AA High School Champion
2016: Anavet’s Champion
2014 and 2016: All-Conference Defensive back and Finals MVP
2016: WHSFL League MVP and WHSFL League all-star defensive back
