Will the Cougars QBs prevail over Limoilou’s RB Gabriel Brault! In the 514 rival rematch, can the Vanier defence stop the Vieux-Montréal RB committee!

Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Géants (4-5) vs Collège André-Grasset Phénix (7-2) Probably the best matchup of the weekend, the number one offence clashes with the number one defence. Saint-Jean needs mother nature to cooperate for them to exploit their passing attack, captained by QB #CFC100 Dimitri Morand, who finished first in passing yards and broke 3 records. The Géants might be psychologically affected by their lost to Limoilou last week and the fact that André-Grasset annihilated them in the first week of competition, but the taste of revenge is sweet and they have the tools to deliver an upset. André-Grasset has been solid all around with a well balanced offence, a tireless defence and magistral special teams. The Phénix defence, steered by #CFC100 DE Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal and LB Yacine Audette who are both sack leaders, and overlooked by the two interception leaders of the division, DB’s Bruno Lagacé and Vincent Morissette, will provide them a semi final participation.

Cégep Limoilou Titans (4-5) vs Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars (7-2) Another Friday night battle in Lennoxville, with two teams bestowing different offences and different styles on defence. Limoilou will pound the ball on the ground with RB Gabriel Brault, who is ranked second and coming off an impressive 348 yards display last week, and their more conservative defence, which is average overall. Offensively, the Cougars’ young QB’s and WR Uunda Oboo are capable of creating havoc in the secondary and they can also rely on #CFC100 OT Patrick Davis and the running game. Champlain’s defence, with LB’s Dominik Brazeau and Michael Brodrique who are ranked 4th and 5th in sacks, is able to bring pressure and disrupt the timing in pass synchronicity, but will they be able to stop Brault! They did the last time they met and the odds are in favour of the defending champs at home to move on and participate in the second round.

Vanier College Cheetahs (5-4) vs Cégep Vieux-Montréal Spartiates (5-4) Rematch of last week’s collision between the Montréal rivals! The Cheetahs offence has the advantage, if the weather permits QB Dimitrios Sinodinos to throw the ball, and the capability to score fast. Sinodinos is well surrounded with WR Samuel Emilus, who is ranked fourth and with the highest average with 20,1 yards per catch, and the RB committee including Patrick Charles, who is also ranked fourth. On the other side of the ball, Vanier’s linebacking corps is solid with Darren Kyeremeh, who finished first in total tackles, and #CFC100 Kean Harelimana, who is 4 tackles shy of Kyeremeh, placing him third. Their secondary, lining up DB’s #CFC100 Derek Acheampong and  #CFC100 Tyris Lebeau, who was resting an injury last week, will be able to stop the Spartiates aerial threat, but the weakness to stop the run may haunt them again. The Black and Gold RB committee gained 202 yards and scored 3 touchdowns to prevail last Saturday. The Vieux-Montréal ground game can provide them the ticket to play next week, but the Spartiates defensive prowess will finish the job. The Vanier receivers will need to outrun #CFC100 DB Benjamin St-Juste and #CFC100 DB Jérémie Dominique to win this one, because  #CFC100 LB Enock Makonzo and #CFC100 Julien Le Guéhennec will eliminate the run game. This contest will end with a tight score and Vanier will put their equipment in storage.
