After originally announcing his commitment to Utah State back in June, CFC100 athlete Leif Magnuson out Bethlehem (SK) took a different path on NCAA National Signing Day with his commitment to Arizona.
Magnuson took a winding path to the next level with his journey beginning and ending in Saskatchewan, but a pit stop at Clarkson Football North in between proved to be a valuable experience on and off the field. Before moving back home for his senior season, the young athlete took park in the inaugural CFC Prospect Game on TSN, and was entertaining a long list of interested programs including Northwestern, Minnesota, Western Michigan, Kent State, Toledo, Washington State, Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, North Dakota, South Dakota State and North Dakota State.

Although he announced his commitment to Utah State, he began to receive more NCAA attention in October with an offer from UMass, followed by Texas State, Kansas, Indiana, Fresno State, Washington State, Boston College, Syracuse and then finally Arizona. The Wildcats may have been last to the party, but they’re the only one’s leaving with a grin after convincing Magnuson that Tuscon was the place to be.
He’s one of the most versatile athletes on the CFC100 rankings with the ability to play defensive end, offensive line, tight end and he’s an elite long snapper – we’re talking pro-calibre type of elite. Away from the gridiron, he’s also a gifted shot putter in Saskatchewan, where he’s won multiple medals on the provincial circuit.
The long list is no surprise when you consider his athletic genetics that come from his father, Quinn Magnuson, who played in the CFL for five seasons after spending his collegiate career at Washington State, his uncle Keith Magnuson, who played in the NHL from 1969-1979, and his second cousin, Steven Mazurak, who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1970-1978.
