#CFC50 game preview (AB): Bellerose Bulldogs Seek elusive win over Titans

In the team’s season opener against the reigning Carr conference champions #CFC50 ranked No. 3 Bev facey falcons, The Bellerose Bulldogs were expected to experience defeat. A final score of 45 – 1 emphasized what many had predicted. What was not expected, however, was how the Bulldogs would respond to such hardship. In the week following that defeat, the Bulldogs exploded to a 26 – 8 victory over the Salisbury Sabres in which the team scored 19 unanswered points with just under six minutes to play.

“We started last week with several errors in execution on offense”, revealed coach Chad Hill. “However our defense and special teams held us in the game until midway through the third quarter. Our offense was finally able to run the ball with some authority and take control of the game.”

The strong play of quarterback Quade Kozak (two scores) and the defensive prowess of Jacob Turpin (interception) enabled the Bulldogs to regain their footing in the Carr conference as they head into their next matchup against yet another powerhouse in the Harry Ainlay Titans.

The Titans’ offense bolsters some elite level prospects, some of which may very well play at the next level. Playmakers such as QB Cody Olson, #CFC100 RB Tadi Siwari, and versatile athlete Jonothan Rosery will be focused on heavily in this matchup if the Bulldogs wish to come out as the victors.

“We will need an excellent week of practice and mistake free football in order to compete and upset this opponent” reiterated coach Hill.

The Titans are coming off a blowout victory against the Jasper place rebels, extending their season record to 2-0.

bilde-1

The Bellerose Bulldogs are a young team according to coach Hill, and will look to utilize their youthful enthusiasm to potentially knock off the Titans. “We are a young team in a state of re-loading. We have a small roster so many players play on both sides of the ball.“

“Our team is relying on several rookies to shoulder a huge load. Gr.10 DE and SB  rarely leaves the field. Gr.10 Brett Yost (Alberta u16 selection) is also contributing at RB, LB and special teams. Gr.11 Quade Kozak (2015 Jr. MVP) starts at QB and is our leading rusher after two games. Paul Kane transfer, (2015 junior league Grant Yuzyk Award MVP) Cordel Callioux plays all over the field in the defensive secondary, receiver and returner. The unsung hero to this point has been gr.11 Ben VanLeeuwen who kicks, plays LB and DE as well as RB and FB. Our biggest surprise is a player in his first season of organized football. Gr.11 Jacob Turpin has an INT in both games this season from his CB position and he also plays WR. Our offensive line is anchored by veteran Gr.11 guard, James Suranyi. Our defensive line is led by seniors Nick Allen and Ryan Young.”

As per injury concerns, training camp took its toll on one of the Bulldogs’ veteran player Matt Jeffers. Due to previous injuries from last season, as well, two-way player (DB/SB) Matt Jeffers, badly injured his knee during our preseason game vs. Mt. Boucherie in Kelowna and requires season-ending surgery to repair a dislocation and torn ligaments of both his ACL and MCL.

This matchup will take place at Foote Field this Friday at 7:30pm. History has favoured the Titans thus far dating back to the 2003 merger of the metro and public leagues in Edmonton. Being that this game will be the Titans’ home coming game, the hostile crowd may play a huge factor in the outcome. Therefore, we at CFC have the Harry Ainlay Titans topping the Bulldogs in what should be a lopsided victory.
