CFC 100 defensive back commits to NCAA’s Cornell

Malcolm Chaka will be seeing red in 2015.

Earlier this month, the CFC 100 defensive back verbally committed to NCAA Division 1 team, Cornell Big Red.  Chaka will join the team for the 2015 NCAA season.

After narrowing his top three choices to Cornell, Harvard and Brown, the 6’3, 205 pound standout from Mississauga, Ontario took in official visits.  Once he arrived at Cornell, he was sold on the campus and team.

“The decision was made when I took my official visit out to Cornell,” recalled Chaka.  “When I went out there and met some of the guys on the team, and got personal interaction with the coaching staff off the football field, I really felt that it was home for me.”

Chaka just completed a stint with Lake Forest Academy Caxys in Illinois.  Previous to the Caxys, the defensive back suited up north of the border for both the Father Michael Goetz Gators of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) and Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Now that he has made his decision of where he will continue his gridiron career, there is a sense of relief for Chaka.  Now the CFC 100 defensive back can focus on his rookie season with the Big Red.

“Committing definitely took a lot of the weight off of my shoulders, since I don’t have to stress about where I’ll be next year anymore,” added Chaka.  “I’m going to be heading out early in July to train with the guys on the team already to prepare for next year.”

“I’m looking to come in and make a direct impact on the team.”

Ultimately, Chaka would not have been able to achieve his gridiron dream without the help of his coaches.

“I definitely want to thank my Coach Robin Bowkett at Lake Forest Academy for the opportunity to play in the states, and the coaches on all the teams I’ve played for, for helping make me into the player I am today,” expressed the CFC 100 defensive back.
