Dillon Woodcock’s gridiron career began back in the sixth grade, when he started playing in a minor league running out of Belleville. He started off as a safety, not knowing what he was doing, but got the hang of it by the third or fourth game.

Then came Grade 7, where he was switched to right outside linebacker and often had the most tackles each game. The following year, he was moved to the left outside linebacker and was even better. Dillon received Player of the Game that year when he had 23 tackles, 1 pass defence and 5 converts. Unfortunately, he ended up missing two of the eight games that season due to a strained MCL.

Moreover, his first year of high school, with the Centre Hastings Centurions, continued to bring him on-field success.

In Grade 9, Dillon made the #CFCOPC (Ontario Prospect Challenge) team, but did not play due to an injury.

His sophomore year also brought him an MVP award.

“My favourite highlight was when we were playing Trenton and I was playing receiver…,” said Dillon, “… I ran an out route and the quarterback threw me the ball and I got around the first defender then juked out the next guy and ran in for a touchdown.”

During the offseason, the Centurion continues to train by lifting weights, sprinting and route running. To improve, Dillon plans to work on building muscle and skills for other sports.

On the field, his dad, who has coached him his entire life, is his biggest influence as he pushes him to do all the things he can do.

In the future, he hopes to attend Guelph, Queens, or other schools in London, but has made no commitments.

“Due to several concussions, I have chosen to retire from playing football,” explained Dillon. “I do play other sports such as baseball and basketball.”
