CÉGEP10 RANKINGS Week 1: Top programs assert their dominance on opening weekend

1. Ch.-Lennoxville Cougars (1-0)
Champlain picked up where they left off last year, so no reason to remove them from the top of rankings as of yet. The Cougars were led by CFC60 Jeremie Kankolongo, who ran for 174 yards and two touchdowns in their 34-15 victory over CNDF.

2. Vanier Cheetahs (1-0)
We may have underrated the Vanier Cheetahs last season, so we’re going to give them their due respect in week one. The Cheetahs came out of the gates flying with a sound 42-3 win over Limoilou.

3. André-Grasset Phénix (1-0)
The high flying Phénix are back for another season, and they didn’t disappoint in week one – except newcomers Lionel-Groulx who couldn’t keep up with the pace in a 57-20 defeat. The CFC60 duo of Jonathan Sénécal and Kevin Mital connected on 6 passes for 175 yards and 5 touchdowns. You think they’re going to be a problem for defences in Quebec this year? That’s not normal.

4. Vieux Montréal Spartiates (1-0)
Vieux Montréal are looking to flip the script from last year, and they did a fine job in week one with a dominant 40-24 victory over Saint-Jean. Arnaud Desjardins threw for 431 yards and three touchdowns, while the defence came up with three interceptions.

5. Garneau Élans (1-0)
It’s a new beginning for the Garneau Élans, who got their first win out of the way as early as possible with a tight 29-23 win over Lévis-Lauzon.

6. Notre-Dame-de-Foy (0-1)
CNDF had a tough draw in week one against the defending champions, and unfortunately they couldn’t keep up with a rampant Cougars defence. One positive is they came up with a couple interceptions from Samuel Tavernier and Justin-Xavier Audet.

7. Lévis-Lauzon Faucons (0-1)
Lévis-Lauzon are trying to adjust to life without their star running back CFC60 Joanik Masse, and week one didn’t go as planned. Last year you would’ve easily picked the Faucons to defeat the Élans, but it’s a new year and they found themselves on the wrong end of a 29-23 defeat.

8. Lionel-Groulx Nordiques (0-1)
Lionel-Groulx are the new kids on the block, and they weren’t handed any favours with their week one matchup against André-Grasset. Despite the lopsided 57-20 scoreboard, the Nordiques can take a lot of positives from Carl Chabot rushing for 205 yards on 8 carries, and Charles Aubry throwing for 326 yards and two touchdowns.

9. Saint-Jean Géants (0-1)
Saint-Jean stuck around for a little bit, but they simply couldn’t play the catch up game in their 40-24 defeat at the hands of Vieux Montréal. The highlight was Jérémy Dussault and Edouard Arsenault combining for 156 yards along the ground, but they still ended up throwing the ball 50 times which was a recipe for disaster.

10. Limoilou Titans (0-1)
Somebody has to be last, and unfortunately Limoilou couldn’t take many positives away from their 42-3 loss to the Vanier Cheetahs. It’s back to the drawing board with tons of time to move up the rankings before playoff time.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
