CEGEP Week 10: Spartiates finish season as league’s best, earn bye

Vieux Montreal Spartiates end their regular season with the best record in the CEGEP Division 1 after this past weekendā€™s action.

Benoit Gagnon-Brousseau and Marco Dubois each scored touchdowns as the Spartiates defeated Montmorency Nomades 29-12.

Quarterback Hugo Henderson had 10 completions in 19 attempts for 149 passing yards and two passing touchodwns. Gagnon-Brousseau also added 102 receiving yards on eight catches (average of 12.8 yards per catch).

Defensively, Ethan Makonzo led the way with seven tackles (five solo, and four assisted).

The Spartiates finish the regular season with a 9-1 record and has a bye in the quarterfinal round.

For the Nomades, Kevin Dubois scored the lone major in the game.Ā  Additionally, CFC TOP 100 Gabriel Parent racked up 117 rushing yards in the loss.

Schneider Charles registered 10.5 tackles (nine solo, three assisted) to lead the Nomades defense.Ā  Kenny-baku Mbula and LoĆÆc Kayembe each recorded sacks.

The Nomades finish the season with a 3-7 record and will face Notre Dame-de Foy in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

CHAMPLAIN-LENNOXVILLE COUGARS 26, NOTRE-DAME-DE-FOY (CNDF) 0:

Cedric Joseph scored two touchdowns to lead Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars to a 26-0 shutout victory over Notre-Dame de Foy.

Two CFC TOP 100 players played prominent roles on the Cougars defense in the win ā€“ Cedric Lussier-Roy registered six tackles (five solo, two assisted) while Philippe Dion added 5.5 tackles (five solo, one assisted) and recorded a sack. Additionally, CFC TOP 100 Jonathan Boissonneault-Glaou recorded two sacks while James McCallum caught two interceptions and Kevin McGee added one interception.

With this win, the Cougars end the regular season in top spot in the Nord-Est Division with a 7-3 record and have earned a bye in the quarterfinals.

As for CDNF, Louis-Philippe St.Amant registered 6.5 tackles (five solo, three assisted) while Mathieu Boutin recorded a sack and caught an interception.

CNDF finish the regular season in second place in the Nord-Est with a 7-3 record and will square off against Montmorency in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

VANIER CHEETAHS 42, EDOUARD-MONTPETIT LYNX 10:

CFC TOP 100 Hugo Richard, Tyrane Miller, Cullen Tennant , Jamahll Charles and Carl-David Erius all tallied majors as Vanier Cheetahs crushed the Edouard-Montpetit Lynx 42-10.

Wade Cyr led the Cheetahs defense by registering 6.5 tackles (two solo, nine assisted) recorded a sack and caught an interception for a touchdown.

The Cheetahs ended the regular season with a 7-3 record and second place in the Sud Ouest Division. On Saturday, the Cheetahs will battle FX-Garneau Elans in the quarterfinals.

For the Lynx, Jean-Guy Rimpel scored the only touchdown of the game for the team.Ā  Julien Deschenes added five tackles (three solo, four assisted) while Vincent Jacques caught an interception and Mathieu Rioux-Paquette recorded a sack.

The Lynx finish the regular season with a 1-9 record and fourth place in the Sud Ouest Division.

FX-GARNEAU ELANS 25, LEVIS-LAUZON FAUCONS 20:

Mathieu Bouchard and Simon Bourgeois-Dumas each tallied majors as FX-Garneau Elans got by Levis-Lauzon Faucons 25-20.

CFC TOP 100 Mathieu Forgues amassed 143 rushing yards.

Mathieu Duval registered 11.5 tackles (six solo, 11 assisted) to lead the Elans defense.Ā  Marc-Antoine Ouellet, Vincent Houle and Loic Jager all recorded sacks in the win.

The Elans finish the regular season with a 5-5 record for third place in the Nord-Est Division and will meet Vanier Cheetahs in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Francis Bois, Charles Morin and Alexandre Gagnon scored touchdowns for the Faucons. Marc-Antoine Claveau registered six tackles (five solo, two assisted) while Charles Brousseau caught an interception and Olivier Lavoie recorded a sack.

The Faucons end their regular season with a 1-9 record and last place in the Nord-Est Division.
