CEGEP linebacker joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class
Samuel Brodrique has made the best decision for himself when it comes to his future CIS home.
This week, the 6’2, 220 pound linebacker from Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Quebec committed to Concordia Stingers. Brodrique will join the team for the 2016 season.
Brodrique said he was flattered when he learned the Stingers were high on him for quite some time. Moreover, his enthusiasm and passion for the sport aligned with the Stingers ambitions as well as gridiron philosophy.
“Once, I had a coach who transmitted a lot of passion to me and made me believed that I could be something special,” recalled Brodrique. “Without knowing it, Concordia started recruiting me when I was in Peewee playing for the Wildcats.”
“When I met Coach Pat [Donovan] and Mickey [Donovan], I saw the same energy I saw in my coach back then. These coaches have such respect for how they treat their players in a way the players want to give their heart to them and I’m a guy like that; if you give to me I’ll give the world for you.”
Additionally, he thoroughly enjoyed the time spent around the area this past summer. Academics were also a decisive factor in his decision to opt for the Stingers.
“John Molson is a very nice I had the chance to work there during summer and really liked the people out there,” expressed the linebacker. “Business is business, but having the chance to do it in English was a special for me.”
Currently, Brodrique is heading into the CEGEP Division 1 playoffs with Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars. So far, the defensive standout has registered 39 solo and 15 assisted tackles. Furthermore, the linebacker recorded four sacks and caught two interceptions.
Previous to the Cougars, Brodrique has also suited up for RSEQ Juvenile Division 1’s Cure-Antoine-Labelle Wolves and Laurentides-Launadieres Wildcats.
