CEGEP recruit realizes gridiron dream with Gee-Gees (VIDEO)

CEGEP defensive back joins OUA team’s 2016 class.

Since his childhood, there was only one goal Jason-Lee Jones wanted to achieve when it came to his gridiron career.

Recently, the 5’11, 213 pound defensive back from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec made it happen as he signed with the Ottawa Gee-Gees.  Jones will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

“My dream as a young boy was to play CIS football and so, it is a dream come true that I had the opportunity to commit to the University of Ottawa’s football program,” expressed Jones of his commitment.

Academics played a pivotal role in the defensive back’s deicision.

“School is very important for me and as a student, my main goal is to become a physiotherapist and the University of Ottawa is giving me the best chance to achieve my goal,” added Jones.

Once he stepped foot on his official visit to the Ottawa, Ontario campus, the defensive standout felt comfortable and realized it was the place he wanted to extend his gridiron career.

“When I visited the university during March Break, Coach [Jamie] Baressi and Coach Jean-Vincent [Posy-Audette] welcomed me with open arms,” recalled Jones.  “We visited the campus and the sports complex and it was great.”

“Also, I spoke with some players, chatting about the life in Ottawa and how great the fans are in Ottawa. I felt like I was already part of the family.”

Among the teams Jones has suited up for during his career include CEGEP Division 2 teams Saint-Jean-sur-RIchelieu Geants and Sherbrooke Volontaires.

“I am hoping to contribute as early as next season, wether it is on special teams or on offence,” said Jones.  “I am so excited to able to put pads again.”
