CEGEP Division 1: Elans & Nomades advance to semfinals

FX Garneau Elans sent the defending Bol D’Or champions Vanier Cheetahs packing this past weekend in CEGEP Division 1 quarterfinal action.

While the team needed overtime, the Elans knocked off the Cheetahs 51-45.

Guilliaume Dumas and Simon Gingras Gagnon each tallied two majors in the victory.  Mathieu Bouchard, Jeremy Lajoie and Christophe Pelletier also added touchdown scores for the Elans. Simon Bourgeois  Dumas racked up 127 receiving yards on six carries.

Dumas had 29 completions in 54 attempts for 401 passing yards and five passing touchdowns for the Elans.

Defensively, Anthony Couturier registered 11.5 tackles (nine solo, five assisted) to lead the Elans.  Gabriel Ouellet caught an interception in the game.

As for the Cheetahs, CFC TOP 100 Hugo Richard was a man on a mission.  The pivot had 27 completions in 44 attempts for 325 passing yards, one passing touchdown, four rushing touchdowns and one interception. Two other CFC TOP 100 offensive standouts – Alexandre Savard and Bryce Vieira also talled majors for the Cheetahs. Dev Lamour  amassed 124 receiving yards on seven catches.

Jizreel Botat registered 11 tackles (eight solo, six assisted) while CFC TOP 100 Jean-Gabriel Poulin added 10 tackles (six solo, eight assisted) to lead the Cheetahs defense.  Thomas James Donald recorded  a sack.

The Elans advance to the semifinals where the team will meet Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars.

MONTMORENCY NOMADES 35, NOTRE DAME DE FOY (CNDF) 26:

CFC TOP 100 Gabriel Parent scored two touchdowns as Montmorency Nomades advanced to the semifinals with a 35-26 victory over Notre Dame de Foy.

Will Altema, Stephen Louis-Phanor and Dave Charles also tallied majors for the victors.  Quarterback Benoit Lacasse had 20 completions in 31 attempts for 372 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and one interception to lead the Nomades offensive unit.

Samuel Rossi was in beast mode as he registered 13 tackles (10 solo, six assisted) Alexander Pinet-Watson recorded a sack while Parent caught an interception.

As for CNDF, Karym Kartsonis Alexandre Fortin and Simon Laplante scored touchdowns in a losing cause.   Alexis Cote racked up 157 rushing yards. On defense, Jean-Philippe Hudon had 5.5 tackles (five solo, one assisted).  Louis-Philippe St.Amant and Vincent Desjardin each recorded a sack while Jean-Sebastien Belisle caught an interception.

The Nomades will now meet Vieux-Montreal Spartiates in the semifinals.
