CCES: Laval player not at fault

(Ottawa, Ontario – May 1, 2019) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today that Samuel Thomassin, a U SPORTS football athlete affiliated with Université Laval, produced a urine sample, collected during in-competition doping control on November 3, 2018, that revealed the presence of dexamethasone, a prohibited glucocorticoid when administered by injection intra-muscularly.

Following a hearing held on March 19, 2019, Arbitrator Yves Fortier determined that the athlete was not at fault nor negligent for the presence of dexamethasone in his sample and that the athlete will receive no sanction in accordance with CADP Rule 10.4. The full decision and clear rationale for the determination of no fault or negligence can be found at

Although the athlete was determined to have no fault or negligence for this situation, in accordance with CADP Rule 14.3.2 the CCES is required to publicly report the outcome of this file.
