Mississauga linebacker joins OUA team’s 2015 class

Carleton Ravens have announced the addition of Mark Kudu to their football program.

The 6’3, 220 pound linebacker from Mississauga, Ontario will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

Kudu has previously played for Clarkson Chargers of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) where he was named the team’s Defensive MVP twice.

Additionally, he suited up for both the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Oakville Titans of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

β€œMark is an up and coming talent, he is big and rangy and can run very well,” commented Ravens Head Coach Steve Sumarah.Β  β€œWe are excited to work with Mark as he develops into a dominate student-athlete at Carleton.”

Kudu issued the following statement regarding his commitment:

β€œThe ability to go to a school that has the program that is directly related to the field of work I’m interested is what I was looking for in a University so I applied for Criminology-Sociology and on my visit I met with the department head and a criminology professor who answered many burning questions, and really helped me understand what I would be getting into and what it would take. I aspire to be a parole officer.”

β€œNow in terms of what it takes to become a good football player who can contribute and help make the team better, my experience at Carleton helped show this better than any other visits.”

β€œI got to meet and talk with Coaches [Ryan] Bechmanis and Sumarah who let me know where we stood and believed I could become a better player with my current skill set and their coaching and tweaking. Coach Darrell Adams and I had many conversations on the phone, at my home, my school and at Carleton, and his ideologies of how to play the game, how to prepare yourself in the offseason and family orientated views of how to become a man really struck home with me.”

β€œGetting to do an on-field workout with two other first year line backers and the coach was awesome but a wakeup call seeing guys my age and what level they were at after eight months of training with the team. Also participating in a high energy Saturday morning workout with no shortage of competitiveness had me on the brink of throwing up at the end.”

β€œAlso the facilities and setup of everything to Carleton from weight room, locker room, fieldhouse were amazing.”

β€œAnd finally the guys I met from the team were very approachable and easy to talk to unlike other teams in the OUA. A team full of second or third year guys with the right attitude to work hard to have gained all of their respect up to this point (going from 0-8 to 4-4 ) is somewhere I wanted to see myself.”

β€œThey don’t go out and over recruit, they bring in a concise group of players to complement and compete with their very young roster. I’m very excited to be able to be a part of The Ravens and know before or by the time I graduate I have no doubt that this team can compete for a Yates or Vanier Cup.”
