Carabins add another Phénix commit

The Carabins are loading up on local recruits from the 2017 commitment class.

Yacine Audette, a defensive lineman from the Collège André-Grasset, can practically see his new school from across the St. Lawrence as the Saint-Hubert native has committed to the Montréal Carabins.

Audette, who plays with the Collège André-Grasset Phénix (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec Division 1), will join his teammate, Gabriel Morel, who had committed to Montréal earlier this month, on the Carabins. The outside linebacker is 5’11, 195 lbs and has a time of 4.53 on the forty-yard dash. He has also played for the Saint-Hubert Rebelles in the Québec Minor Football League.

“There’s not too many kids that I’ve seen here over the last couple of years coming out of CEGEP football that have the motor that he has. He plays at a very high level every single play. His energy is contagious when you watch him perform out there,” Danny Maciocia, the head coach of the Carabins, said of his most recent commit.

“He is going to bring that passion and energy, that motor, and when you watch him compete out there with the physical ability and tools that he has, he has a tendency to make a lot of plays. That is something that is really hard to teach. You can coordinate players, but not all will finish. This kid is a finisher,” Coach Maciocia added.

Coach Maciocia and his recruiting staff had already been introduced to Audette at the spring camp in May. He said that, “We will go and watch local games in the area and he is a kid that constantly catches your eye. He sort of confirmed what we already knew about him in the month of May. That’s why for us he was a must have. As much as he is a good fit for us, we are also a good fit for him academically and how he is going to fit here on the football side.”

He added that, “Six years ago we had to rebuild this program. We’re not in the rebuilding mode anymore. We’re into the reloading mode and bringing in these two young men (Audette and his Phénix teammate and recent Carabin commit, Gabriel Morel) gives us an opportunity to reload with not only what they do on the field but what they will contribute to the locker room.”

Since Audette decided to stay local, he won’t have far to travel to get to his new school. His home, Saint-Hubert, is a borough in the city of Longueuil, Quebec, which is directly across from Montréal.

Marco Iadeluca, the assistant head coach of the Carabins, welcomed Audette to the team on Twitter.
