Canadians visit NCAA schools: Weir & Covington travel south

Brett Weir (London, ON) and Christian Covington (Vancouver, BC) should be making decisions soon after taking trips to the United States to consider NCAA options.

Christian Covington, who was the top lineman (DL) in BC AAA high school in 2010, just returned from a trip to Rice in Houston, Texas. The Owls already have the following Canadians on the roster: OL Scott Mitchell (Ottawa); TE Luke Willson (Windsor); DL Hosam Shahin (Richmond, BC); DB Tolu Akinwumi (Brampton, ON). Christian has taken other trips and will probably decide shortly on where he will attend. Christian is academically eligible.

London high school MVP Brett Weir is taking a trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas to visit the Hogs this weekend. The 6’4 1/2″, 217 pounder, who ran a 4.4 40 yard dash, is being recruited as a Tight End by the Razorbacks. Wooooooo, Pig ! Sooie! If offered a scholarship Brett will have to make a decision whether to accept. CFC is not sure if Brett is academically eligible yet or not.

The official NCAA signing date is February 2nd, 2011. Ninety per cent of players sign on this date.

All players must be academically eligible (pass academic entrance exams – ‘clearing house’) before the scholarship becomes official.
