Canadian Players in the NFL

It is pretty well known that most NFL players are from the U.S., so when a Canadian player makes the cut, it means they are something special. There are only a few “foreign” players in the NFL with Canadian players comprising most of those slots. Coming from the CFL, NCAA, and U Sports, Canadian players in the NFL are making a name for themselves and have the ability to back it up. Here is a list of some promising and well-known Canadian players in the NFL new season.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OL-Kansas City Chiefs

From- Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que

Duvernay-Tardif is in his 6th season in the NFL, with experience in the CFL and U Sports. He was drafted in the 6th round by the Chiefs in 2014. He has started in the majority of his games and is the highest-paid Canadian player in NFL history. He has also earned his doctorate, which is an amazing achievement that very few other players have accomplished.

Eli Ankou, DL-Jacksonville Jaguars

From- Ottawa, Ont.

Eli Ankou attended school at UCLA and is in his 3rd season in the NFL. Ankou was not drafted but signed with the Jaguars in 2017. Climbing up the ranks, he is beginning to make a name for himself with a record of 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks in only 10 games played.

Antony Auclair, TE-Tampa Bay Buccaneers

From- Notre-Dame-des-Pins, Que.

Auclair is in his 3rd season in the NFL with college experience in U Sports. He signed as a free agent in 2017 with the Buccaneers and has started in 13 games. He has recorded 9 receptions for 73 yards within his total of 24 games played.

Christian Covington, DL- Dallas Cowboys

From- Vancouver, B.C.

Covington played in the NCAA and is currently in his 5th season in the NFL. He was selected in the 6th round by the Houston Texans in 2015 where he has recorded 65 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and a forced fumble within his seasoned 50 games. Christian Covington signed with the Dallas Cowboys in March 2019.

Tyrone Crawford, DL- Dallas Cowboys

From- Windsor, Ont.

Crawford played in the NCAA at Boise State and was drafted in the 3rd round by the Cowboys in 2012. A veteran of the league, Crawford has recorded 22 sacks, 177 tackles, and numerous forced fumbles in his impressive 92 games. Tyrone Crawford is known for being dependable and an amazing leader on and off the field.

L.P. Ladouceur, LS- Dallas Cowboys

From- Montreal, Que.

With experience in the NCAA, Ladouceur is in his 15th season in the NFL. This 2014 Pro Bowler has never missed a game (snapping in 221 games total) with his entire NFL career being with the Dallas Cowboys.

David Onyemata, DL- New Orleans Saints

From- Winnipeg, Man.

Starting in U Sports, Onyemata is currently in his 4th season in the NFL. Selected in the 4th round of the 2016 draft, he has recorded over 90 tackles with 6.5 sacks. He as played 48 games total, all with the New Orleans Saints.

Nathan Shepard, DL-New York Jets

From- Ajax, Ont.

Shepard has experience playing in the NCAA and was selected in the 3rd round in 2018. Newer to the NFL and with a record of 15 tackles in his rookie season last year. He has a total of 16 games played with the New York Jets.

Brent Urban, DL-Tennessee Titans

From- Mississauga, Ont.

Beginning in the NCAA (Virginia), Urban is now in his 6th season in the NFL. Drafted in the 4th round in 2014 by the Baltimore Ravens, he has now since signed with the Titans in April 2019. Brent Urban has recorded over 30 tackles and 3.5 sacks within his 41 total games played.
