Following his commitment, Weiler issued the following statement:

ā€œI factored my decision throughout this whole process on three things… Academics, Football and Social. These are three things that are words of Coach [Stefan] Ptaszek back in September.ā€

ā€œI was recruited hard by Laurier, Waterloo, Guelph, Queenā€™s and McMaster. Throughout the school year, I visited all these schools on game day visits, training camp visits, and a sit down dinner or lunch with the coaches from all the schools.ā€

ā€œMcMaster was one of the first schools to contact me and I appealed to what they had to say and what was offered there. Many of these schools had a great academic status and such an appealing opportunity to play football. I stayed overnight at four to five schools and very much loved all of them.ā€

ā€œMy decision came down to my top three schools, Guelph, Queenā€™s and McMaster. When looking at the three topics, and looking into the subtopics of each of them, little things added up and made a difference in my decision. It was very hard for me to say no to not only one or two schools but all of them, the chemistry, help and support and true respect from all of the coaches was unbelievable and very emotional to say I see myself elsewhere.ā€

ā€œI chose between Queenā€™s and McMaster. Both the best two schools academically for the programs I liked, both schools can make me the best person leaving university possible. When comparing the two, the resources around me at either school were 100 percent and would not go wrong with either of them.ā€

ā€œFootball wise, last year, Queens had most of their defense graduate and a large recruiting class enter in 2014. Mac just had their whole secondary starters graduate. Both opportunities to come in and make an impact early were most appealing on the side of football. Two to three aspects I’ve been basing everything off of were a tie with two schools.ā€

ā€œMy decision to choose McMaster came with a lot of thought but with no regret made the right one. My parents and grandparents have been my biggest supporters and would hope they would be able to come to my games to support me in as many games as possible. Queenā€™s – Ā it was a little bit tougher to travel every weekend almost four hours away, as for Mac, I get my freedom a perfect distance away from home. Close enough to come home a weekend, far enough to be on my own comfortably.ā€

ā€œSince September, every trip, every night spent at a different university, I always compared every university in any way to McMaster. My dad said that and whether it feels like my gut feeling or not, it means something that every time you’ve come back from a trip, you have compared it to Mac.ā€

ā€œThe distance and the deep gut feeling fit perfectly at McMaster. I loved when I spent the day and night in Hamilton; I was very welcomed with the veterans and players of all ages of the football team. I really got the feeling of a family type instead of individuals.ā€

ā€œThe coaching was definitely a factor, I canā€™t live in the past, but collectively the coaches have so much experience and knowledge for the game and the team. The programā€™s success individually and as a team was most definitely recognized.ā€

ā€œThe academic support that is available when needed run through the program is something I think was most important to me. The way the program is not all about football and how each and every coach will look and check in with you just to talk and to help in any way to make you a better student – athlete. Student comes first and I feel like I will get all the support to maintain being a student first at McMaster.ā€

ā€œAll in all, McMaster was the place for me, whether I knew it or not, since day one it has been number one or two in this whole process. I am going to become academically stronger, athletically better and socially apart of a true brotherhood.ā€
