Cambridge Lions Peewee win 42-12; Bantam lose 28-0


The Ontario Minor Football League Bantam Lions lost their home opener with a 28-0 loss to the Hamilton Steelers Saturday. Led by Devin Pelly, the defence played a strong game. Sam Black, Frank Thorne and Kyle Cole delivered big hits and big plays, showing their composure under a relentless Steelers attack. The defence was on the field for 3 quarters of the game but rose to the challenge and forced 5 turnovers.

However, five turnovers of their own hurt the Lions, as the Steelers kept them pinned in their end of the field most of the game.
The next game is on Saturday June 5th at 8pm, Debt Freedom Field at Jacob Hespeler SS against the North Halton Crimson Tide

The OMFL Pee Wee Lions started their season 2-0 after a 42-12 win against the Mississauga Warriors Saturday night. The Lions started strong with a 50 yard run putting them in position to score the 1st touchdown of the game. They added a second touchdown before the first quarter was out.
Mississauga came back with two touchdowns in the second. Cambridge, however, answered with two turnovers leading to scores and two more touchdowns for a four touchdown fourth quarter attack.

Cambridge’s Jr. Varsity Lions opened their season with a come from behind 28-26 victory over the London Falcons. Down by eleven points in 3rdquarter, the Lions came back with touchdowns by quarterback James Roberts, and a diving touchdown by Tyler Varga from three yards out.

Cambridge’s defence was led by Robin Petrie and Ashton Adams with outstanding contributions from Garrett Burke, Dequan French-Gray and Zack Hoare. As well as Roberts and Vera, Alex Doczi and Tyler Davidson had big games on offence for the Lions.
