Langley receiver joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class

Cecil Belanger feels fortunate of the opportunity presented to him at the CIS level.

Recently, the 6’3, 220 pound receiver from Langley, British Columbia signed with Bishop’s Gaiters. Ā Belanger will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.

Faced with a tough decision during his recruitment process, Belanger came to a realization that his gridiron career may not extend in the CIS. Ā However, an interesting turn of events took place which changed his future plans.

“IĀ decided to go to Bishop’s is to keep my dream alive,” recalled the receiver. Ā “Growing up, I always dreamed of playing for the BC Lions and as my career with Langley cane to a end, I was faced with a choice to give up the game and start working on a career or search for a new team to play for.”

“After a long period of thinking , I decide that I should take work a little more seriously. Then shortly after my mind was made up, I received a call from the Bishop’s recruiter. We talked for about 45 minutes and from that point on, I knew that Bishop’s was the place for me.”

Belanger began his career with community team Cloverdale. Ā He moved on to enjoy a four year stint with the Langley Rams of the British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL). Not only has he played at receiver, but also tight end and longsnapper.

“I believe that everything happens for a reason and when life gives you signs, you must read them and move your life pass it, one way or another,” expressed Belanger. Ā “I am still a little nervous about leaving my family behind, in particular my little sisters. But I hope that in doing so will show them an example of not being afraid to spread their wings and pursue what they love.”
