Bisons announce six recruits

Manitoba Bisons football team is pleased to announce the commitment of six recruits with running back Jamel Lyles and five local recruits nose tackle Tristan Bredin, quarterback Ethan Diakow, defensive end Jared Lazarenko, receiver Cassidy Obijiaku and offensive lineman Randy Sanderson for the upcoming 2015 season.

Bison football head coach Brian Dobie, now in his 20th season with Manitoba, talked about the six recruits, “The 2015 recruiting class of players in the province of Manitoba is an exceptional group of graduates. Today, we are privileged to present some of the best players amongst that class as the newest members of the Bison Football program. All of these players have established themselves in an impactful way as prominent members of our provinces football programs. We are honoured that these young men have chosen the University of Manitoba as their school of choice in which to move forward with their education and pursue their athletic goals. We welcome our newest Bisons.”

Lyles played last season with North Surrey Bears in 2014 and two season with Lord Tweedsmuir in 2012-2013.

– The Surrey, BC native has five Tweedsmuir rushing records, including: single season rushing yards, TDs in one game, total TDs in one season

– The 6’1, 215 lbs. running back had an amazing 2013 season where he had 2400 rushing yards, 57 Total TDs in 11 games

– Lyles other accomplishment include: 2013 –  listed in CFC Top 100; 2013 –   2012 and 2013 – Provincial All-Star; 2013 – League MVP and 2012 – BC Gr. 11 Player of the Year

Bredin finished high school at Murdoch Mackay (2012-14).

– The Anola, MB native was a Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) All-Star in 2013 and team captain with Murdoch Mackay

– The 6’4″, 360 lbs. nose tackle has made the provincial team every year from 2011-2014

– Defensive MVP with Murdoch in 2014 and Canada Cup Defensive MVP vs. New Brunswick in 2014

– Blue And Gold Defensive MVP in 2013; had 40 tackles in 2014 and 38 tackles in 2013

Diakow completed high school at Oak Park (2012-14).

– The Winnipeg native was a Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) All-Star in 2014 and team captain with the Oak Park Raiders

– The 5’9″, 170 lbs. versatile player was also Offensive Player of the Year in 2014 and 2012 for Oak Park and the team’s MVP in 2013

– In 2014, passing stats were 35-63 for 545 yards and 8 TDs and 2 INTs and in 2013, passing stats were 45-97 for 600 yards and 2 TDs and 5 INTs plus he rushed for 708 yards on 62 carries (11,4 average) in 2014

Lazarenko  finished high school at Murdoch Mackay (2012-14).

– The Winnipeg native was a Murdoch Mackay Team MVP in 2014 plus Murdoch Mackay Clansmen Leadership Award 2013

– The 6’4″, 230 lbs. defensive end had 2014 stats: 38 tackles, seven sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick

– He was also Murdoch’s Rookie of the Year in 2012 and Athlete of the Year for 2011-2012 and 2012-2013

Obijiaku, 17 (turns 18 in May 2015), finished high school at Vincent Massey in Brandon (2012-14).

– The Brandon, MB native was a team MVP in 2014 with the Vincent Massey Vikings

– The 6’3″, 201 lbs. receiver was Junior Most Outstanding player Offence in 2011 and

Most Outstanding Player Offence in 2013

Sanderson, 17 (turns 18 in June 2015), completed high school at Sisler (2012-14).

– The Winnipeg native was a Sisler AAA MVP in 2014 and Sisler AAA Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2013

– The 6’3″, 210 lbs. offensive lineman was Sisler AAA Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012
