Big Wins All Around

Week 6 scores are in and it was another dominant week for a few teams in the WCSSAA. Both Sir John A. MacDonald and the Preston Panthers controlled the gridiron this weekend. After close games for both teams, the Highlanders and Panthers were ready to have an overwhelming victory. Neither team held back and was able to score early and often. Both teams had an outstanding defensive performance leading to the decisive victories.

Sir John A MacDonald 28 vs. St. Maryā€™s 8

Sir John A MacDonald has had a great season thus far and was able to add another win to their record this weekend against the St. Maryā€™s Eagles.Ā  After a very wet and cold weekend, the game was going to be a wet and wild performance from both teams and they didnā€™t disappoint. Head coach Josh Alexander tells CFC, ā€œI was very proud of our players as we were able to move the ball consistently in a very wet and sloppy game when running was a necessity and everyone knew it.ā€ This season, The Highlanders have had an extremely impressive run game with Mike Lynch leading the way. He rushed for another 3 touchdowns this week adding to his remarkable season. Quarterback Brian Mundt added a touchdown of his own to add to his teams win.

Defensively Sir John A stood up and kept the opposing team off the board all game. Alexander is proud of his boys once again this weekend, ā€œHats off to our defense for an incredible effort! We held their offense off the score sheet as their one score came on specials. Great work by our front seven to shut down their run game and our secondary was there to break up passes when needed.ā€

The key to this weekā€™s win was the 3 turnovers the Highlanders forced. The team had to battle the elements and the Eagles but came away with a great victory. ā€œThe kids really came to play today and banded together in the face of adverse weather and field conditions. It was great to see us relish the down and dirty, blue-collar style of play needed to win in conditions like that…it was playoff weather in Canada at its finest!!!ā€

Preston 43 vs. Cameron Heights 7

After losing by one point last week, the Preston Panthers were looking for redemption. They wanted to step up and come out with a dominant victory. They came to play after just missing out last week. The Panthers had two key players this week who led the way. Tyler Wismer and Clay Collison both had 3 touchdowns on the day allowing the Panthers to cruise to an easy victory. Head coach Jim Crone tells CFC, ā€œIt was the best all-around game of the year for our team. We were up 35-0 at halftime.ā€ The weather affected the game for both teams and Cameron Heights was not able to capitalize on the bad weather like the Panthers were. A wet and cold weekend forced both teams to rush the ball with Preston having the better week.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
