BCFC Players of the Week (9): Brown, Kwan, Poulin named

BC LIONS

British Columbia Football Conference Players of the Week

Week 9

OFFENCE

Mason Brown / QB / Westshore Rebels

25 of 39 for 275 yards 3 TDS 1 INT

1 reception for 8 yards

7 carries for 81 yards

The Westshore Rebels found themselves in must win territory Saturday at home to the Valley Huskers. And while the afternoon was a disappointing one for the home team as a 52-38 loss eliminated them from play-off contention it was not due to lack of effort on quarterback Mason Brown’s part.

Brown had his best overall game, statistically at least of the season throwing the ball and moved the ball with his feet as well as he did all he could to claw his club into the post- season.

This is Mason’s and the Rebels first BC Lions Player of the Week

DEFENSE

Darby Kwan / LB / Kamloops Broncos

7 tackles / 1 assisted tackle

The Kamloops Broncos 2018 season has been well documented for all it’s struggles as the team has limped to an 0-9 season.

But in a year of surprises that made the season as interesting as it has been for the 0ther 5 BCFC clubs, the Broncos almost pulled off a miracle upset of the 1st place Okanagan Sun.

The Broncos led 10-8 until late in the contest thanks to a stubborn and aggressive Broncos defence that was led in no small part by linebacker Darby Kwan. He was around the ball all afternoon for a Broncos team that showed this team doesn’t intend to quietly go away.

This is the first BC Lions Player of the Week for the Broncos this season

SPECIAL TEAMS

Brandon Poulin / Returner / Valley Huskers

2 kick returns for 138 yards and 1 TD

3 punt returns for 12 yards

The Huskers were in a shootout with the Westshore Rebels and special teams in no uncertain terms were the reason the Huskers came away with the W.

Everytime the Rebels scored the Huskers answered back with a strong kick return and two of them went for touchdowns. In the second quarter after a Rebels touchdown gave them a 7-3 lead, Poulin answered with a 96 yard gallop to the end zone to give his club a 10-7 lead and set the tone for what the day would be like for the home town Rebels.

This is Poulin’s 2nd BC Lions Player of the Week of the season
