BCFC Players of the Week (1): Wytinck, Clarot, and Richard named

BC Lions

British Columbia Football Conference Players of the Week

Β

The British Columbia Football Conference 2018 season kicked off this past weekend with three games. The Conference announces its first BC Lions Players of the Week of the season!

Β

OFFENCE

Julian Wytinck QB Valley Huskers

25 of 39 / 310 yards / 4 TDS / 3 INT

Julian Wytinck was a major signing by Huskers coach Bob Reist this season as he joined the program for his final season of junior eligibility via the Manitoba Bisons. Expected to be a leader of a rebuilding Huskers team, he led them to what outsiders will consider a major upset of the defending conference champion VI Raiders.

Down in the 3rd quarter by a 31-3 score, Wytinck and the Huskers stormed back for a 33-31 victory. Time will tell if that victory was an upset or a sign of things to come.

DEFENSE

Kyle Clarot DB Langley Rams

6 tackles / 1 assist / 1 pass knockdown

The 2017 BCFC Rookie of the Year brought his stellar play back to the new season as he was all over the field for the Rams in a dogfight of a game with the Westshore Rebels.

Although the Rams came out on the short end of a 19-16 game, Clarot showed he will again be a key performer on the Rams defense this season.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Conor Richard LB Okanagan Sun

2 kick returns 107 yards (96 yard TD)

Forced fumble

Conor Richard was a major player on the Okanagan Sun defense in 2017. While the defense was stifling in a 56-6 win over the Kamloops Broncos that saw the Sun limit the Broncos to 38 yards of net offense, Richard made two major special team plays that killed any momentum Kamloops may have hoped to gain.

In the second quarter he stripped the Broncos punter of the ball at the Broncos 1 yard line, leading to a Sun TD and 21-0 lead the next play. In the 3rd quarter after the Broncos scored an unconverted touchdown on a turnover to slow the bleeding and cut the Sun lead to 41-6, Richard took the ensuing kickoff 96 yards to the end zone to end any sign of Bronco momentum.
