BCFC BC Lions POW #5: Yachison, Gayat, Jones

The British Columbia Football Conference is pleased to announce their “BC Lions Players of the Week” for Week 5 of the 2013 season.

Offensive Player of the Week

Receiver #18 Derek Yachison – Kamloops Broncos

The Kamloops Broncos and VI Raiders played an evenly matched game on Saturday night.  One of the brightest stars for the Broncos offensively was receiver Derek Yachison who recorded six catches for 151 yards and the lone Broncos touchdown through the air.  Though the Broncos would fall short, Yachison is the “BC Lions Offensive Player of the Week.”

Defensive Player of the Week

Defensive Lineman #98 Ash Gayat – VI Raiders

The VI Raiders have been one of the best defenses through the first half of the season and they have been led by veteran defensive lineman Ash Gayat.  In Week 5 Gayat would lead the Raiders with 15 defensive points.  He would collect two tackles, one assisted tackle, two sacks, a batted ball and recover a fumble.  His efforts name him the “BC Lions Defensive Player of the Week.”

Special Teams Player of the Week

Kicker #83 Ryan Jones – VI Raiders

On Saturday night the VI Raiders would score 37 points, which made kicker Ryan Jones a very busy person.  The “BC Lions Special Teams Player of the Week,” would connect on two field goals (12 and 39 yards) and three converts.  He would tally four punts that traveled 170 yards and six kickoffs averaging 51.3 yards.  This is Jones’ first award of the season.

The lone BCFC game this weekend highlights the Westshore Rebels (0-4) visiting the Valley Huskers (2-1-1).  The other four teams have the weekend off to enjoy the Labour Day weekend.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
