BC LIONS players of the week: Cullen Cup

BC LIONS

British Columbia Football Conference Players of the Week

Cullen Cup

The Langley Rams captured the Cullen Cup Sunday afternoon with a dominating 39-7 win over the Okanagan Sun.

The BC Lions Players of the Week for the BCFC championship game

OFFENCE

Duncan Little / QB / Langley Rams

13 of 19 / 238 yards / 0 TDS / 0 interceptions

Duncan Little put in a workmanlike performance for the Rams Sunday in the Cullen Cup. While his performance may not turn heads on a typical day, it was solid and virtually error free. Smart football equals championship football on this day

DEFENSE

AJ Blackwell / LB / Langley Rams

8 tackles / 1 forced fumble / 1 fumble recovery

Who is AJ Blackwell? Going into the play-offs Rams head coach Howie Zaron said he is the best defensive player in the BCFC and for the second straight week he is the BCFC defensive player of the week.

Blackwell  led a smothering Rams defence that limited the Okanagan Sun to just 73 yards of net offence. Defence wins championships.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Jayden Sheilan / Kicker / Langley Rams

6 of 6 field goals

2 of 2 converts

While the Rams controlled the ball the entire first half Sunday afternoon, they were unable to convert with touchdowns against a stingy Okanagan Sun defence. Sheilan stepped to the plate or rather to the T and was perfect on 6 first half field goal attempts.

Stay tuned for Paul Shortt’s “Rewind” column Thursday, we imagine 6 field goals in one half of football in a BCFC championship is some kind of record.

CJFL National Semi-Final

The Langley Rams now host the OFC champion Hamilton Hurricanes in the national semi-final. The game is 4PM Saturday, Nov 3 at Mcleod Athletic Park in Langley.
