An Insight into Canadian Football and how it’s Changing the World

You would have thought that Canadian football might not be here to stay. After all, it has to compete with American football and there’s also Canada’s own obsession with ice hockey as well. That being said, when you look at the statistics from TV deals, team revenue and even player salary, you will see that it’s actually thriving and that all of the numbers are going up every single year.

Cultural Differences

When you look at Canadian Football and even American football, you will see that they were both developed in the 19th century. They evolved from the game of Rugby, which is most famously played in Britain. Rugby and Canadian football are very similar but there are some key differences in the rules. For example, Canadian football has a way bigger pitch and there is also one extra player per side. Canadians are very much aware of the differences between England and Canada in terms of the sport and they are both interested in making their own cultural identities too. The CFL is one way that they can actively do this. After all, Canadian football is available in terms of sport betting and the first game was recorded way before the first American football match too. The Canadian heritage is what helps fans to keep on coming back for more.

Carrying the Game Forward

A lot of people get into Canadian football from a very young age because they learn from their parents. Some believe that Canadian footballers have to be in much better shape when compared to their US counterparts too. The main reason for this is because it is a much faster pace when compared to the NFL.

Different Levels

When you look at the Saskatchewan Roughriders you will soon find that they are one of the three teams who are owned by the fans. They don’t have any competition as they have no other sporting teams in the city, and this is helping them to really take off and become dominant in terms of fans. The team also benefit when you look at the high level of migration in Canada as well. There are expatriates who live in the country and this is helping to keep the interest in the sport.

Gridiron Differences

The football field for Canadians is 110 yards by 65 yards. In American football, it is 100 yards by 53.3 yards. The Canadian team also have 12 players per side but there are only 11 in the US. The Canadian teams have 3 attempts to try and move the ball forwards but in US football, they have four. When you look at Canadian football, you will also see that

there is a one-yard gap between the defence and offense. In the US however it’s much bigger than this. Sure, the differences might be subtle but at the end of the day, it’s not hard to see why it is becoming so popular and a lot of this comes down to the fact that the fans are loyal.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
