Alberta commit excited for football, independence

Golden Bears add an Alberta commit to their 2019 class.

After signing with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, Chase Laprise, an offensive lineman from Henry Wise Wood High School, is one step closer to realizing his dream of playing pro football.

While Laprise may be from Calgary, Alberta, he won’t be alone when he heads north to Edmonton. “I have a good amount of buddies playing there. I have family in the area, and it will be nice to be able to be close to home but still give myself the chance to be independent,” he said.

“I really love the coaching staff,” he added. “The coaching staff there is awesome. I love how they go about training in and out of season and how they run practice and support their kids.”

Standing at 6’3, 255lbs, Laprise will be playing as a centre. He has played for both the Calgary Falcons and the Henry Wise Wood Warriors (CHSAA). He won a city championship in grade ten.

Laprise, who will be taking history, spent five years as an army cadet. He is a holder of the Legion Medal of Excellence, which he earned during his time with the Cadets.

Primed and ready for U Sports, Laprise said, “I’m super stoked for my time as a Golden Bear and hope to see football past university!”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
