In every sport, there is one position that is the leader and backbone of the team. Sometimes it is obvious, like in baseball for example. The pitcher controls the game, but the back catcher is calling all of the shots. In soccer it may be less obvious, but any successful team cannot exist without a competent and strong goalkeeper ensuring everyone is where they are needed to be.
