2018 Grey Cup Winner Odds After Week 2

Week 2 is in the books and we’ve now seen most teams two times this year and have a decent picture of each team’s level of play for this season. The Stampeders have flown out of the gate and look primed to finish atop the league once again, while the defending champion Argos are 0-2 and will need to improve if they hope to defend the Grey Cup. You can check out the season standings here.

Below are outlined the odds for the Grey Cup winner from Bodog, a popular site for sports betting in Canada. They are one of the only sportsbooks that allow you to deposit Canadian dollars or buy bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to fund your betting account.

* Calgary Stampeders +210

* Hamilton Tiger-Cats +350

* Winnipeg Blue Bombers +600

* BC Lions +600

* Edmonton Eskimos +700

* Saskatchewan Roughriders +700

* Ottawa Redblacks +800

* Toronto Argonauts +900

* Montreal Alouettes +3300

The Stampeders are the rightful favourites to win this years Grey Cup. They finished with a 13-4-1 record last season to lead the league and did even better with a 15-2-1 record in 2016. Here in 2018, they looked primed to once again have a strong season having won their first two games convincingly.

That said, they failed to win the Grey Cup in either of the last two seasons, falling in the finals to Ottawa in 2016 and then Toronto last year. Calgary has finished at the top of the league standings for the past 5 seasons, but they’ve only managed to win the Grey Cup once in that span. Just based on that fact alone, even though they deserve to be favourites, I’m not sure there is value in them at odds of +210.

I’m personally looking at either Ottawa at +800 or Toronto at +900. The East is the weaker division, but a team from the East Division still must make the finals, and as we’ve seen in recent years, once a team makes the finals anything can happen. The Tiger-Cats +350 odds I think are a result of the Manziel-effect, so I don’t think there is value in that play. The Alouettes at +3300 are going to be bad, which left me looking at the REDBLACKS and Argos for value plays to win the Grey Cup this year.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
