2017 National Team Roster announced, including 14 CFC100s

Football Canada announced on Thursday a 40 player all-star roster which was selected from pool of talented standouts that competed in the 2017 Football Canada Cup last month in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

Highlighting the list of all-stars are Quebec’s Kalenga Muganda, Saskatchewan’s Joshua White and British Columbia’s Tyson Philpot who were previously named respectively Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams tournament MVP’s in Wolfville.

With the depth of the competition level extremely high last month in Wolfvile, it became a difficult task to chose the 40 all-stars.

“This year’s Football Canada Cup group has been an outstanding group of young men,” commented  Junior National Team Head Coach Steve Sumarah.  “One of the things that made this selection very difficult was the talent pool in every position was so deep.”

“It was very challenging but I think we’ve put together a pretty good squad.  I am excited to see how these kids perform.”

Not only do the chosen players gain recognition for their performances, but also receive an invitation to represent Canada and compete against the United States national team in the 2018 International Bowl.  Dates and locations will be announced at a later date.

The 2018 International Bowl serves as a momentum builder for the Junior National Team as they prepare to defend their gold medal at the 2018 International Federation of America Football (IFAF) under-19 World Championship.

“Going forward, some of these guys will have an opportunity to join the Junior National team and it will only strengthen that program,” added Sumarah.  “They will be well-representing Canada at the International Bowl in January.”

“It’s a very exciting time for football in Canada and I’m looking forward to January when we can go compete against the Americans.”
