2016 CIS team preview: Mount Allison University Mounties

2015 regular season record: 5-3

2015 regular season standings: 1st in AUS

2015 playoff record: 0-1

2015 playoff finish: Lost 14-12 to St. FX in AUS Championship
General Write-Up:

The Mount Allison Mounties are coming off a season in which they finished 1st place in the conference for the 2nd consecutive year and a 3rd straight Loney Bowl appearance.  The Mounties came up just short of capturing a 3rd consecutive AUS championship and will look to rebound in 2016.

The Mounties’ high-tempo offense returns seven starters from the 2015 unit that led the AUS in points per game (27.6) for a third straight season.  The Mounties’ offense will look to find a new quarterback to distribute the ball to a deep group of playmakers and play behind an improved offensive line.

The Mounties return five starters from the 2015 defense that led the country in yards per game (322.9), and has ranked among the country’s best in points allowed (1st in ’14, 4th in ’15), takeaways (1st in ’14, 6th in ’15), run defense (3rd in ’14, 4th in ’15) and sacks (3rd in ’14, 6th in ’15) over the past two seasons.

Quote from head coach: Scott Brady

“I’m really looking forward to this season.  We have a great group of guys in our program who worked extremely hard all off-season.”

“We will have a lot of new faces stepping into some key roles on both offense and defense and we will have great competition at a number of positions in camp.”

“Our focus is to be the most physical team in every game that we play and to improve throughout the season so that we are playing our best football in October and November.”
