2010 draft watch: Top 10 Wide Receivers

There are a few underclassmen WR prospects that are ready for the NFL. There also seems to be a few teams that are going to need a legitimate number one receiver, and one of them (Cleveland Browns) will have a very high draft pick.

In 2009 there were four receivers taken in the first round, the 2010 class isn’t on that level but there are at least two legitimate first rounders, and two or three more legitimate second rounders in this class.

With all that being said let us take a look at the top 10 WR prospects for the 2010 draft:

1. Dez Bryant Junior, Oklahoma State- He is a big receiver who busted onto the scene in 2008 easily challenging Michael Crabtree as the best receiver in the College ranks. While he has been suspended by the NCAA that should not affect his draft stock and he should be the first receiver drafted in 2010.
2. Brandon Lafell Senior, LSU-He has deceptive quickness and athleticism for such a big receiver, 6-2, 207lbs. He gets up field quickly after catching the ball and has the agility to avoid tacklers.
3. Jordan Shipley Senior, Texas- When he is healthy he is one of the most productive receivers/return men in the game today. However he has big time durability concerns after missing 2004 and 2005 due to injuries and having shoulder surgery this spring.
4. Mardy Gilyard Senior, Cincinnati- The only real knock on him is he is tall and lanky and lacks the bulk to break tackles. However his stats at Cincinnati should speak for themselves and he showed no slow down despite losing his starting QB for a few games.
5. Jeremy Williams Senior, Tulane- If he did not have a significant injury history he might be much higher on this list. He is averaging 155.5 all purpose yards per outing and has been invited to the Senior Bowl and the East-West Shrine game. He will get the chance to impress NFL scouts.
6. Jacoby Ford Senior, Clemson- While he lacks the ideal height, he is a speed burner that has the quickness to make sharp cuts and can score from anywhere on the field.
7. Eric Decker Senior, Minnesota- He might be the best hands guy in this draft, and he is also a baseball prospect. He is a tough and aggressive runner, and makes difficult catches look routine. He had 50 catches for 758 yards before sitting down to a foot injury
8. Dexter McClulster Senior, Ole Miss- He is more a Wild Cat weapon that he is a true receiver. However a team like the Miami Dolphins would have a hard time passing on him, since he would fit their wild cat scheme so well
9. Andre Roberts Senior, Citadel- He will need to turn in good performances at the post season all star games to make up for not facing elite talent throughout his College career. He has decent size, his very athletic, and could fly up team’s draft boards due to his production.
10. Chris McGaha Senior, Arizona State- His upside is he plays a lot bigger than he is, and uses that to gain yardage after contact. He absorbs big hits and is able to hang onto the ball. He is smart, and uses his quickness and size to create space

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
