’14 #CFC100 Kongbo verbally decommits from NCAA’s Tennessee Vols (VIDEO)

Jonathan Kongbo has apparently has a change of heart.

This afternoon, the 6’6, 255 pound defensive end from Surrey, British Columbia announced via Twitter that he has verbally decommitted to NCAA Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team, Tennessee Volunteers (Vols):

In late November, the 2014 #CFC100 ranked Kongbo has announced that he was going to sign with the team for the 2016 NCAA season.Β  The Volunteers compete in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

His verbal commitment at the time was at the conclusion of an official visit the defensive end took in with the Volunteers.Β  The NCAA Division 1 team initially offered the defensive end back on October 21st.

For his part, the defensive standout will not make any further announcements on his decision until NCAA Signing Day. Despite his decommitment, he is still considering the Vols

Among the other offers Kongbo received during his recruitment process included Oregon Ducks (November 20th), California Golden Bears (November 17th),Β Mississippi State Bulldogs (November 9th),Β  Oregon State Beavers (November 2nd), Arizona Wildcats (October 22nd), Nebraska Cornhuskers (October 25th), Washington Huskies (October 28th), Louisville Cardinals (October 29th) as well as ones he received earlier from Auburn Tigers, Middle Tennessee State Blue Devils, Ole Miss Rebels and South Florida Bulls.

Kongbo completed a stint at the JUCO level with Arizona Western College Matadors.Β  In 2015, the defensive end recorded 9.5 sacks, registered 49 tackles and 12 tackles for a loss.

Previous to the Matadors, the defensive end suited up for with the Holy Cross Crusaders of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA). Β For his exceptional play on the field in 2013, Kongbo was named a Provincial β€˜AA’ All-Star.

This past November, 247 Sports declared that the defensive end as the top ranked JUCO player.
