Simon Fraser game preview: Homecoming Saturday At Terry Fox Field

By Steve Frost – Sports Information Director ([email protected])

Simon Fraser University Clan football returns to the Burnaby Mountain campus for a special Homecoming Game this Saturday at Terry Fox Field (6 PM Kick-off). “NCAAeh” t-shirts will be given away to SFU students at the game.

Sideline bleachers will bring fans close to the action as the Clan plays rival Central Washington Wildcats. Enjoy food trucks, half-time performances by the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band, SFU Cheer and Dance teams, and watching students attempt field goals to win free tuition.

The first 200 SFU students at the Merchandise Tent beginning at 6 PM will receive a free “NCAAeh” t-shirt and will have the chance to be chosen for the Kick A Field Goal, Win Free Tuition contest.

Six SFU students will be chosen to attempt a field goal from the 35-yard line. Any SFU student that successfully makes the kick will win the value of their tuition based on the number of credit hours registered in the current term up to $2,500. Students will be chosen by engaging with @SFUClan through social media on Game Day, and every fan chosen is already a winner, receiving aĀ $75 Gift CardĀ to the SFU Spirit Shop just for participating. More details here.

Simon Fraser lost its only home game this season at Swangard Stadium to nationally ranked Humboldt State, 56-24. In just his third game in a Clan uniform, sophomore Jalen Jana of Surrey rushed for 262-yards in that game, the fourth highest single game total in Clan history playing four down football.

Only Mike Vilimek (315 yards, 2001), Orville Lee (293 yards, 1986) and Marchi Gabriele (276 yards, 1998) had better days rushing for the Clan, compiling those marks when the Clan competed in the NAIA.

Jana transferred from Cheyney University, an NCAA D2 school in Pennsylvania, and is in his first year with the Clan. He played high school football for St. Thomas More Collegiate.

Central Washington is currently 2-2 overall and is coming off a 40-18 win over Dixie State.

Tickets to Clan football games are free to SFU students with a valid student card. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for visiting students and $2 for youth, seniors and SFU staff. Tickets are available at the games one hour prior to kick-off.

Parking is always free at all SFU varsity events at the Burnaby campus 90 minutes prior to the start of the contest in the West Mall Parkade.
